Last year the festival programmed a fascinating virtual reality (VR) journey through space and time accompanied by an Aboriginal patriarch recalling his discovery of Western civilisation during the nuclear tests. This year, thanks to VR and the possibility it gives the spectator to move freely in space, two short films provide an opportunity to meet militant women in Kurdistan fighting Daesh, and to discover the anonymous dead of the Syrian wars. In a troubling way, these two sensory experiences plunge us not only into the midst of the combats of women prepared for any sacrifice, but also in amongst floating parcels containing the corpses of refugees, victims of war and not least our indifference.
