It is March 1918. Jimmy Raleigh joins up and is posted to the Company of his childhood friend and hero, Captain Stanhope. The group of soldiers prepare for a major German offensive. But Stanhope does not look favourably on the young soldier’s arrival. He is in love with Margaret, Raleigh’s sister, and fears that his friend will tell her that he is an alcoholic. Lieutenant Osborne tries to convince the Captain that Raleigh will do no such thing.
